Sanibel is a small, waterfront village on the southern end of Sanibel Island. This community is linked to the mainland of Florida by the Sanibel Causeway that crosses over Blind Pass. New buildings are no longer built above 2 or 3 stories to preserve the views of the Inter-Coastal Waterway and the Gulf of Mexico. The Wall Street Journal named Sanibel one of the “10 Best Places for Second Homes” in 2010. The major thoroughfare through town is called Periwinkle Way. Shops, boutiques, and restaurants are located on this road. Gulf Drive is where the hotels/motels are located. On the northern shores of Sanibel, the JN Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge sits.
