Kissimmee, Florida is a close neighbor to Orlando, just 22 miles to the southwest. As a bedroom community of Orlando, Kissimmee has experienced rapid growth since Disney World came to Florida in 1971. Kissimmee is a city in Osceola County and has a population of near 61,000. With the orange groves lost and the railroads competitive advantage, Hamilton's land operations and his fledgling steamboat industry were in near bankruptcy. Kissimmee emerged in the early 1900's as a cattle ranching city until the arrival of Walt Disney in 1971 and “the rest was history.”
