About Jupiter
Jupiter is an east coast community located in Palm Beach County, Florida. The University of Florida population research center estimates there are just over 50,000 Floridians who make their home in this palm tree lined old Florida style city. Known for its beaches, Jupiter has a nick name of “beach town.” The most notable landmark in Jupiter is its 1860 lighthouse located on Jupiter Inlet. Made of brick, it was painted red to preserve the structure from the harsh deteriorating salt spay. Like the rest of Florida, Jupiter’s origin was formed by American Indians. Hope Sound was once the home to the Hope Indian Tribe. Jupiter is home base for spring training camps of the Florida Marlins and St. Luis Cardinals, as they share the facilities of Roger Dean Stadium. The airport is William P. Gwinn. Florida Atlantic University and FAU both have satellite campuses. Celebrities find the living in Jupiter likeable as Burt Reynolds, Charles Vanik, Julia Dubela, Hermes Franca and Jesper Parnevik all make the “beach town” their town too. Jupiter has been at the center of a controversy that brought about a new Federal Act called the Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005. In 1999, a patriotic Jupiter resident by the name of George Andres battled his homeowners association over his right to display the American flag in his front yard. Some say this homeowners association had too much time on their hands as they sued this unruly resident and even went as far as attempting a foreclosure action to recover their massive court fees. Zip codes are 33400 and 33499.
