Nassau County, with a population estimated to be under 75,000 people, is located just South of the Georgia border and to the East side of the state of Florida. Legend has it that a woman named Kate Bailey and her husband built a Queen Anne house in 1895 and when Kate heard that the city was to axe down her favorite Live Oak that stood in the street in front of her home, she stood on her veranda, shotgun in hand to protect the tree. The tree, named “Kate’s tree” is still standing today.
