Daytona Beach separated themselves from Daytona in April of 1960, when local business owners felt that they could provide for a smaller town better than a big city. This community awareness is still prevalent today. During the 1980’s high-raise condos grew along the coast, the community voted to limit the height of future condos to 12 stories in order to preserve the views from the shore.
