Dade city is a city in Pasco county Florida and is a suburb of the Tampa, St. Petersburg-Clearwater area. As of 2004 the estimated population was 6,615. Downtown Dade City is known for its antique shops art galleries and live entertainment. It is also home to Osceola Tavern which was named one of the top 100 bars in Tampa Bay. Throughout the year in Downtown Dade City there are events and festivals such as the annual Kumquat Festival sponsored by the Dade City Chamber of Commerce. Dade City is also home country music legend The Bellamy Brothers and a wildlife rescue called Wild Things. Dade City has become a preferred destination for many who enjoy bycicling because of the many scenic roads along with Withlacoochee Rails park. Dade also has an abundance of local, regional and national rodeos and horse shows. During World War II Dade city was used to support a prisoner of war camp. German Soldiers were kept there who were captured in North Africa. They were fored to build warehouses, make limestone bricks, and make boxes. The camp was in operation from approximately 1942 through 1946. Now it is the location of Pyracantha Park Civic Center.
