Clearwater Beach is located on the west coast of Florida, north of St. Petersburg and south of Palm Harbor. Clearwater Beach has been a popular destination for winter weary northerners desperate to feel the warm Florida sun. Clearwater and Clearwater Beach are located in Pinellas County and are apart of Greater Tampa Bay Metropolitan area. Clearwater was once apart of Hillsborough County until 1915 when it incorporated as its own city. Sand Key, the northern most tip of Clearwater Beach, was the Navy’s target range during World War II. Most of the cities luxury hotels were occupied by US Army recruits before heading into the European Theatre. Early settlers included the Stevens, Stevenson and McMullen families who claimed large tracks of land and farmed it while helping settle this largely unpopulated Florida.
