Suwannee County is named for the river that forms the boundaries on the northern, western and much of the southern border. Suwannee is believed to originate from the Cherokee Indian word “sawni” for “Echo River”. The estimated 42,000 residents of Suwannee County enjoy the rural life that central Florida has to offer.
