Altamonte Springs is located in Central Florida in Seminole County, near Orlando–Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan areas. Altamonte Springs means “High Hill” in Spanish and has a population of around 42,000 people. I-4 connects Altamonte Springs to major cities such as Daytona Beach, Orlando, and Tampa. Uptown Altamonte is the central business district of the city that includes a choreographed water fountain show that has music, light and water show with classical, swing and contemporary music in a 20 minute performance. There are many large-scale apartment buildings and planned high rise condominiums in Uptown Altamonte. Uptown Altamonte also gives residents the choice of shopping, fine and casual dining, parks, and other retailers. Uptown Altamonte includes a square for weddings, festivals, and city holidays. Altamonte Springs also includes the Altamonte Mall, and many restaurants such as several Darden Restaurants, Denny's, and Mimi's Cafe. Altamonte Springs has been a host city to several local special events in the Orlando area, including Red, Hot, & Boom, a major annual firework festival that takes place every July 3 in celebration of Independence Day. The Red, Hot, & Boom event draws over 100,000 local residents and visitors annually from the entire Central Florida area, includes appearances musical performances by nationally and internationally known entertainers, and is Central Florida's largest Independence Day Celebration.
